You Never Can Tell

We would love to invite you to the preview event of our exhibition ‘You Never Can Tell’ on Thursday 23rd May in the basement of the Welcome Pub in Silverhill from 6pm onwards.

We are second year BA (Hons) Photography students at University Centre Hastings.

The exhibition “You Never Can Tell”, will run from 24 May to 6 June, and uses photography’s uncanny ability to go beyond the appearance of things to examine a wide range of contemporary issues.

‘Young people are emerging into a world that is often harder to explain than it was for their parents. Some of the issues that concern them are new, some are not but have become visible in different ways. All of these emerging artists are using photography to examine states of mind in very different ways, challenging the negativity and prejudice they feel in the world around them, sometimes directed towards them. Their work questions ideas about normality, how we see ourselves and each other.’

Want to study photography in Hastings?

There’s a couple of places left, but you’d better be quick applying, we start at the end of September.  Here’s what one of last year’s students had to say:  “I just wanted to thank you for all your support and guidance over the last two years. I came onto the HND hoping to achieve practical knowledge, f-stops and apertures, learning photography as a subject. but I have gained so much more, you have all inspired and taught me more than I ever thought possible.

Well, we couldn’t ask for better feedback.

Apply now – 2 places left – and change your life

We’ve got TWO places left for the course starting in October, but you need to apply as soon as possible!   Working with experienced practitioners and academics this 2 year course over 3 days a week enables you to carve out a new career for yourself in a photography-related area.

Class of 2015

Sussex Coast College HND Photography 2015

As per usual on Opening Night at Sussex Coast College Hastings it was chock full of visitors and packed with all manner of quality art and design and my camera was nowhere to be seen as I was on the hospitality desk!  Nevertheless, two years after beginning this journey the Class of ’15 HND Photography students have put on a terrific show, complete with branding.  Under their brand ‘FStopology’, was a website, online catalogue, showreel, prizedraw, flyers, sweets, floor decals and photographs, where else but on the wall.  Not forgetting the magic lantern show which went down a storm with queues onto the balcony.  Theresa Turner’s work was nominated for the Vincent Lyons Award and the whole class looked magnificent.  Overall a great end to the two years.  To see all the work for yourselves you’ll have to come along, the show continues on Monday and Tuesday 10 am until 6pm, it’s really worth the effort and we look forward to seeing you.  We wish the Class of ’15 a hugely successful and enjoyable next step and future.
